A Truth Journal: LSU Saw The Light To Keep Coach Les Miles. Political Pressure and Fan Pushback Brought It About

A Truth Journal: LSU Saw The Light To Keep Coach Les Miles. Political Pressure and Fan Pushback Brought It About: From Denny:  What a game tonight as Coach Les Miles led his much tighter team to a great win against Texas A & M.  This was a must win game for our coach to be considered to remain as head coach.  Just 20 seconds after the game AD Joe Alleva came out and announced that Les Miles will stay on as head coach.  It was Coach Miles' first hearing of the decision just moments after the game.

The past few weeks a group of boosters have tried to orchestrate his firing.  What a bunch of divas, thinking a bunch of angry rich old white guys could throw their weight around and force his firing without even consulting the fan base of thousands of fans across the nation who follow LSU football.  Coach Miles is the very picture of "grace under fire," something those boosters did not mirror.

The attitude of AD Joe Alleva and his booster posse have greatly angered the state of Louisiana and the city of Baton Rouge in particular.  Political pressure started coming to bear when the LSU fans loudly and bitterly complained about this nasty and unprofessionally handled situation...

Comfort Food From Louisiana: Chef Recipe: Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Crawfish, Pepper Jack and Shrimp-Tomato Bisque Soup: April Is National Grilled Cheese Month

Photo provided by Loews Hotels -- April is grilled cheese month, the perfect time to make Cafe Adelaide's take on Louisiana Crawfish-Pepper Jack Grilled Cheese With Smoked Tomato-Shrimp Bisque and Pickled Charred Chile Salad.

Comfort Food From Louisiana: Chef Recipe: Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Crawfish, Pepper Jack and Shrimp-Tomato Bisque Soup: April Is National Grilled Cheese Month: From Denny:  Now this is an exotic version of the humble comfort food:  the American grilled cheese sandwich.

You have no idea how hard it was when visiting Austria a few years ago when I attempted to explain how to make a simple grilled cheese sandwich to a local chef.  It was a seriously foreign concept to them.  They didn't have a clue.  Lots of delicious local cheeses yet no Austrian version of a grilled cheese sandwich!  Imagine that.

This Louisiana version comes from executive chef Carl Schaubhut of Café Adelaide in New Orleans.  Of course, as seafood, this rich sandwich is considered Lenten season friendly.  Serve by pairing it with the shrimp-tomato bisque soup. Here in Louisiana we always look for an excuse to enjoy our bountiful seafood so why not go meat free on Fridays even when it isn't Lent?  (You know, that special time that arrives after Mardi Gras and before Easter.)  Our restaurants enjoy creating Lenten season menus, always topping themselves from the year previous!...

A Truth Journal: Russia and Iran Attacking U. S., 60 Years Later Russian Missiles Based In Cuba, Latin America:

From Denny:  Is it any wonder the world is mobilizing their collective military to take down Russia, and, now their partner in crime, Iran?

At first the West was content with just limited economic sanctions but Idiot Putin and Iran think they can double down on their retaliation and now attack America directly with their long range missiles they are positioning in Latin American bases.  They have been planning this multi-level attack for years...

A Truth Journal: Obama And DOJ Harassing 3 Million Voters - and Journalists - With New Tactic

Señalización de lugar de votación en Californi...

A Truth Journal: Obama And DOJ Harassing 3 Million Voters - and Journalists - With New Tactic: From Denny:  As an Independent and a liberal I rarely take the Louisiana newspapers seriously.  Most of their red state conclusions from the news are flawed thinking at best and so opinionated the facts get lost in the shuffle. Most, like my Baton Rouge paper, The Advocate, are too busy advancing the promotion of scare tactics from the Republican propaganda machine.

However, the facts remain to be seen clearly from the latest DOJ's suspect and downright sinister wrongdoing.  You know it's really bad when I finally write about it.  The DOJ is claiming their need for private information of almost 3 million Louisiana voters - and thousands of  journalists in that database - as necessary to protect the voting rights of the possibly disenfranchised, primarily African-Americans and Hispanics.  And what ever happened to my rights:  my civil rights, my constitutional right to vote unhindered, both as a journalist and as a liberal voter?

The rights of the many are getting trampled in the aggressive effort "claiming" to protect the rights of the few.  It is becoming more and more evident the DOJ actions are not truly about helping disenfranchised voters but something else...

Dennys Funny Quotes: Check Out Funny Business Names in Louisiana

Dennys Funny Quotes: Check Out Funny Business Names in Louisiana: From Denny:  Of the few local newspapers left in America - before they get gobbled up and homogenized by Big Business to turn a bigger profit - there are those small papers that still retain a local flavor.  Baton Rouge, Louisiana and The Advocate is one of them.

A local reporter by the name of Smiley Anders has been collecting and writing this funny column since 1979 when he first started in the business.  The public write in their true stories of funny situations that happened to them.  The public also pass on local Cajun jokes for good measure.

One day Smiley was calling out for readers to send in funny business names they have seen in their Louisiana communities.  Some of the names are downright odd and funny crazy.  Some business owners actually invested in these silly names!...

A Truth Journal: What Is Prez Obama Getting Right Lately? Enjoying the IRS Non-Scandal?: From Denny:  While the Republicans work zealously to manufacture non-scandals to grab media attention just what is the President really doing to correct government problems and on-going issues?

IRS Non-Scandal

My fellow media got all in a lather about the IRS "Scandal" because they really had nothing better to fuss about to try and drive advertising revenue.  Come on; we all love to hate the tax man.  That much the media knew would strike a chord with this story.  Even the Bible documents an historical hatred of government taxation.  None of us enjoy it.

A Truth Journal: Why Wont Pentagon Pay For PTSD Service Dogs For Returning Soldiers?

Advocate staff photo by PATRICK DENNIS -- Joe Tullier, left, and his wife, Cami, work with therapy dog Etta James, an 18-month-old mixed breed, acclimating her to hospital settings and equipment as well as patient situations. The dog will be used as a therapy dog, visiting servicemen in hospital situations.

A Truth Journal: Why Wont Pentagon Pay For PTSD Service Dogs For Returning Soldiers?:  From Denny:  This new fledgling effort service dogs project in Louisiana between two vets has the potential to significantly lower the funding necessary for mental health costs for our soldiers returning from the battlefield.  Yet the Pentagon and Veteran Affairs slough it off as meaningless.  In the home for 24 hours a day, service dogs are always cheaper than years of talk and drug therapy with expensive psychiatrists on a weekly or monthly basis.

The Social Poets: WTF? DOJ Attorney Threatens Reporter At Public Hearing?

Dismissed U.S. attorneys summary

The Social Poets: WTF? DOJ Attorney Threatens Reporter At Public Hearing?: From Denny:  Turns out that President Obama's "transparency in government" does not seem to apply to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and at a public hearing.  Talk about obnoxious and a denial of the freedom of the press.  A newspaper reporter from The Daily Iberian was actually denied his civil rights - and publicly by a DOJ attorney at a public meeting.

This is downright bizarre.  Since when does the DOJ have the right to deny a reporter to record, take notes or quote one of their attorneys who is making public comments at a public hearing?  That is exactly what happened.  Who died and made the DOJ God?  The arrogant attorney's name is Rachel Hranitzky and this happened in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Social Poets: Jon Stewart Mocks Outrageous Arizona School Board Fearing Mexican-American Studies

The Social Poets: Jon Stewart Mocks Outrageous Arizona School Board Fearing Mexican-American Studies: From Denny:  The Daily Show may be a comedy show but Jon Stewart utilizes what is happening right here in America as material.  You can't make up this stuff.  It's unbelievable.  How do these incredibly insensitive - and more importantly, really stupid - people rise to such high positions of authority where they affect the lives of millions of people?  It's scary in its implications.

It's difficult to believe this superintendent actually has a doctorate in education.  Are you sure this guy didn't lie on his resume or buy his degree from some online scam site?  It's like listening to my Republican Louisiana Senator David Vitter who claims to be a Rhodes scholar and a lawyer who graduated Ivy League schools.  He can barely put a sentence together and lacks rational thinking just like this fool.

Watch as comic Al Madrigal baits this guy about Mexican-American studies now banned in Arizona's Tucson school district.  The reasons this superintendent gives are incredible, all based only upon hearsay. Hearsay - can you believe it? This guy who heads their school board never even bothered to talk to the teachers of the program or read any of the textbooks.  And he calls himself an educator?  Unbelievable.

The Social Poets: Groundhog Day Louisiana Style: New Orleans T-Boy, Baton Rouge Boudreaux

ocnutria01096.jpg

The Social Poets: Groundhog Day Louisiana Style: New Orleans T-Boy, Baton Rouge Boudreaux: From Denny: Groundhog Day contenders are popping up all over America. Groundhogs are not native to Louisiana (because it's too hot) but we didn't allow a little factoid like that to stop us. Louisiana likes it's holidays so what effort was it to rustle up another creative idea than to draft the swamp rat nutria into the Groundhog Day?

Up in the northern part of America it's considered really bad news when a groundhog sees its shadow, foretelling another miserable six weeks of winter. But here in Louisiana it means a spring that is shorter than usual.

A short spring means summer's grueling heat and drippy humidity will return sooner than desired. So, you see, burrow-loving animals can come in handy to predict the weather both in the chilly North and the hottie Deep South.

It's a Hot Day on the Farm When...

From Denny: Start off your work week with a few chuckles! Found this recently. The hot weather is unusually early here, even for Louisiana! When I ran across this it was actually funnier in context after reading the author's bio.

She is a free lance writer who moved from Florida to Tennessee and it was a complete cultural shock. Why? Deborah Tukua and her family went from living in the suburbs to living on a true working farm! Her husband knew farm living as both sides of his family were farmers.

What she did not know was, well, everything! She had to learn from the beginning. She recorded all the little pearls of wisdom the locals gave her and eventually began to publish about her country living. Below is a segment, excerpted, that appeared in The Farmer's Almanac. Just click on the title link to go to her website for free recipes, a newsletter and her country living books.

"It's a Hot Day on the Farm When...

* A bear tries to give away his fur coat.

* Crows are wearing sunglasses.

* There are sun-dried tomatoes on the vine.

* The grapes in your grape vineyard turn to raisins.

* Canada geese head for Canada to cool off.

* Turles run across the road.

* Beavers start a forest fire chewing on wood.

* Beavers break out their surf boards.

* Popcorn pops on the stalk in the field.

* You harvest sauteed onions.

* The deer send employment applications to the North Pole.

* The thermometer is sweating.

* You remove the screens from your windows for more air.

* Fish in the pond are wearing sunscreen."

Blogger Interviews Porn Queen Stormy Daniels While Waiting on Jury Duty

Stormy Daniels, American pornographic actress.Image via Wikipedia

From Denny: Been on jury duty since Monday and the days are getting longer so not able to post much. Maybe tomorrow will be a shorter day!

Looks like Cheeky Quote Day is sidelined for today. Will a true story of what happened to me today do in its place? I'm up for a second-degree murder case. Probably will sit around all day waiting to be rejected. That's what happened today after 10 hours of jury selection.

I did get to chat up the staff. Talked to a sheriff who the local news station had promised to interview about his time in Iraq but didn't - clearly he needed to talk about it - so as any good blogger with a journalism degree, well, I jumped on the interview, duh! He's with the Army 239th, an MP and just got back from Iraq a few months ago. He proceeded to tell me about what it was like serving over there.

Real sociable guy and it sure surprised me when he started talking but I figured it was good for him to get the stress out. I mean, how many warriors actually tell you how many kills? And worse, how many were Iraqi children, armed with hand grenades and ordered by their parents to come kill Americans? Sad but true tale.

While he acknowledged it was a tough decision to choose self-defense and claimed it didn't bother him, I figured it did upset him and that's why he was telling me all about it. Soldiers from many wars often start talking around me and I hear the most amazing stories of personal trauma.

It isn't always what people tell you as true but rather the fact that they are talking about something so horrific while claiming it doesn't bother them. Of course it bothers them, why else would they need to talk about it? I don't waste time judging, just accept and listen. Talk about a lot to process for them.

***

Now the highlight of today's jury service was going to lunch at a little eatery known as The Roux House. We noticed the local TV news crew outside, went in and there was a big commotion at the back of the restaurant. We peeked in and it turns out a new politician was announcing her candidacy.

Who was it? Turns out it's the porn queen, Stormy Daniels, who was the regular prostitute for years for Louisiana's Senator David Vitter. Yep! The former pro is running against her customer!

I found it amusing. On her way out she stopped to talk to everyone at the few tables and so I took the time to interview her about her candidacy. Turns out ABC News was there too. I asked some very easy questions to give her a chance to prove herself. I'll try to blog tomorrow about the interview. What a hoot! When was the last time you had the opportunity to interview a porn queen AND attend a bizarre event in the weirdest world of Louisiana politics? It was a definite two-fer! :)

Pink dolphin appears in USA lake

Right here in Louisiana!

News story:

The world's only PINK Bottlenose dolphin which was discovered in an inland lake in Louisiana, USA, has become such an attraction that conservationists have warned tourists to leave it alone.

Charter boat captain Erik Rue, 42, photographed the animal, which is actually an albino, when he began studying it after the mammal first surfaced in Lake Calcasieu, an inland saltwater estuary, north of the Gulf of Mexico in southwestern USA.

Capt. Rue originally saw the dolphin, which also has reddish eyes, swimming with a pod of four other dolphins, with one appearing to be its mother which never left its side.

He said: "I just happened to see a little pod of dolphins, and I noticed one that was a little lighter.

"It was absolutely stunningly pink.

"I had never seen anything like it. It's the same color throughout the whole body and it looks like it just came out of a paint booth.

"The dolphin appears to be healthy and normal other than its coloration, which is quite beautiful and stunningly pink.

"The mammal is entirely pink from tip to tail and has reddish eyes indicating its albinism. The skin appears smooth, glossy pink and without flaws.

"I have personally spotted the pink dolphin 40 to 50 times in the time since the original sighting as it has apparently taken up residence with its family in the Calcasieu ship channel.

"As time has passed the young mammal has grown and sometimes ventures away from its mother to feed and play but always remains in the vicinity of the pod.

"Surprisingly, it does not appear to be drastically affected by the environment or sunlight as might be expected considering its condition, although it tends to remain below the surface a little more than the others in the pod."

Regina Asmutis-Silvia, senior biologist with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, said: "I have never seen a dolphin coloured in this way in all my career.

"It is a truly beautiful dolphin but people should be careful, as with any dolphins, to respect it - observe from a distance, limit their time watching, don't chase or harass it.

"While this animal looks pink, it is an albino which you can notice in the pink eyes.

"Albinism is a genetic trait and it unclear as to the type of albinism this animal inherited."

A close relation of dolphins, the Amazon River Botos, called pink dolphins, live in South America in the Amazon.
